Meet Dixie!
Dixie is a dachshund - yorkshire terrier mix. She is approximately 3 years old. She weighs 7 pounds but should probably weigh closer to 12 or 14 pounds. She is extremely emaciated. Dixie came to the Norfolk animal shelter as an owner surrender. She has been severely neglected.
Despite her situation she remains friendly. Her main focus at the moment though is eating. She is being fed 4-6 times per day to slowly reintroduce her to food. She gobbles anything you put in front of her. We have to take is slow to allow her system to re-adjust to eating again.
Dixie has been reluctant to put on a harness but once it is on, she walks on leash to go potty outside beautifully.
Dixie will need time to gain weight and when its safe, she will be spayed.
Overall, her health is good and we will continue to feed her and get her ready for adoption.
