Meet Forrest! He’s a 4 month old, 12/13 pound, Schnauzer mix. He has a very active little boy who needs to have heart surgery to fix a congenital heart murmur caused by a PDA . He will have surgery July 7 at James River Veterinary Surgery
Forrest LOVES the other dogs in his foster home! He wants to play and wrestle all day. He is learning to walk on leash and working on his potty manners. He is also being crate trained for sleep. Forrest is a good boy! He is learning quickly. He is so smart!
As with all dogs under two years old, training classes will be required to finalize his adoption. You will have 6 months to complete this requirement.
Forrest didn’t have the easiest start in life. He and his sibling were found in the woods in NC alone with their mother who was is horrible condition. She gave birth to her puppies in the woods. She was a matted, ball of fur. She was trying to nurse 2 puppies but they could not find her nipples to nurse due to the extreme matting of her coat. Thankfully the puppies were found (at 2 weeks old). They were taken to the shelter. And, the mother was trapped and also taken to the shelter. Needless to say, they needed to get out of the shelter quickly. A good Samaritan saw the Request and the dogs ended up at the Humane Society in Suffolk. Mom and babies were together in a safe place. All received medical care and were on their way to a new life. Then the news hit. Forrest had a PDA and his mom was heartworm positive. Mom will receive treatment now that both babies have been placed: Forrest with our rescue and his sister was adopted.
The humane society called us to help. We swooped in and took Forrest into our care. After he heals from his surgery he will be ready for adoption. This is a special little boy! He’s a fighter like his mom and sister. Apply now to give him the home he deserves!
