Dolly is new to the Rescue. She comes to us from the shelter in Suffolk, Virginia. She is estimated to be 2 years old and weighs about 7 pounds.

Dolly saw the vet last week. As a result she is now in medical hold (but you may still apply). She has skin allergies affecting her ears so badly they are almost swollen shut. This comes from a lifetime of neglect of her allergies. It may result in a surgery to remove the ear canal causing permanent deafness. We also learned she had a mass that needed removing and spaying. (The mass was benign! Hooray!)

Dolly had her spay and tumor removal surgery on Wednesday and despite all she is going through, remains a sweet little girl who just wants love and attention. She is generally an easy-going, go with the flow little dog and gets along well with her resident foster sibling. She is food motivated and will be easy to direct and train.  So far her potty manners are good (but we never guarantee a dog is fully house trained). She walks well on leash and likes to snooze in the sunlight. She is a delight but anyone interested in adopting should know she will need management of her allergies for the remainder of her life. Currently, we are trying to save her ears with aggressive treatment to get the swelling down.

Dolly has now recovered from her surgery. She is full of sass and energy. As we have learned more about her we can say she is a happy girl. She loves her walks. She is a world class jumper so nothing is safe on a table and she will prove it if she wants to! She loves belly rubs and people more than the company of other dogs. She best served as an only but will be okay with another small, respectful dog. She is starting to learn she is safe and beginning to protect the house! She will make a great pet for someone who is home more than not to reduce any anxiety she may feel. We do not know her full story but her ending will be THE BEST!

If you are interested in adopting her please consider the following:

  • She will need to have her allergies managed with Cytopoint injections, allergy medication and possibly prescription food and anything else the vet/dermatologist recommends.
  • She may need surgery on her ear canals, which causes deafness, if we cannot get her allergies under control.
  • These issues will need life long management.
  • We will not be ready to adopt her out until we have a handle on her skin issues/allergies. Possibly 6 weeks or longer.
  • We are looking for an adult only home for her due to her anxious tendencies.
  • Independent, but social.
  • Not a lap dog
  • She has some separation anxiety and would like someone home more often than not.
  • Not a lap dog
