Meet Farley!
Farley is a senior Shih Tzu - Poodle mix weighing roughly 18 pounds. He came to us in February of 2024 from the shelter in Norfolk. He was being fostered outside the shelter, but the foster family could no longer care for him and he was returned.
We took Farley in and he settled into a routine. We had him groomed. Then discovered that he hated grooming. We found a good family for him. Then discovered that he hated children. We placed him in a new foster home and was excited to find out he tolerated cats. We adopted him out to a home with a cat, only to discover ...he really doesn't like cats. Farley is an enigma. LOL
So, we decided Farley was telling us he really liked it at Compact Canine Rescue. He liked his 3 hots and a cot... well TWO hots...he is a little plump. He loves his foster family and the many, short sniffari walks they take daily. He loves taking his medications with a little piece of hotdog (he will NOT take them with anything else). And, Farley absolutely loves a good senior snooze. He has a large, fluffy calming bed he snuggles into for his daily naps. He gets in his bed and promptly hangs up his Do Not Disturb sign up until dinner time.
His foster family continues to work with him and has even made strides in the grooming department. He has typically had a shave-down under anesthesia because he would NOT tolerate grooming any other way! But he is learning to allow some handling and making life a little easier on himself. Grooming under anesthesia interferes with his daily meals! Therefore, he is relenting a little... but only a little! Farley knows the kind of life he wants to lead...and we listened. He deserves it!
