Meet Jude!
Jude came to us from the shelter in Manassas, VA. While his exact age is unknown, he is an adult estimated to be around 8 years old (at intake), give or take a year. Jude is a small mixed breed, likely a spaniel mix with characteristics similar to a shih tzu or another short-legged, long-torso pup. Determining his precise breed is a challenge, and your guess is as good as ours!
We took Jude into the rescue on June 22, 2025. He was very scared and had trouble adjusting to all the changes in his life. He tended to be aggressive with men and much prefered the ladies. We can only assume he has been mistreated by a male in his past. Jude deserved better than he has received. Given the fact he can become aggressive with strangers, especially men; experiences anxiety in new situations; and does not tolerate being handled; the rescue decided to make him a forever foster.
Forever fosters or Retirees are dogs who are un-adoptable due extensive medical needs or behavioral issues/concerns. Jude didn't deserve the pain and suffering he has endured and we want to be sure he is never afraid again. So, Jude has retired to the home of one of our awesome volunteers who really connected with him. He trusts her, and he is living his best life. He and his foster parent are a team and together they navigate his idiosyncrasies. She loves him and he loves her. We are so grateful for our volunteers who want to give dogs like Jude a chance.
Our goal at Compact Canine Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome the dogs we foster. Then, rejoice! when they are adopted. There are times when hard decisions need to be made. Thankfully, those decisions are few and far between. Without programs like our Retiree (Forever Foster) program and foster families willing to help, Jude would most likely have been euthanized. It is heartbreaking to think about but it is a reality. We want to save them all but we can't. Caring for these dogs requires a lot resources especially money. Yep! There's that dirty word...money! But, again, it is a reality. Money makes rescue happen.
