Tonto is new in rescue. He is a 5 year old, 14 pound, purebred miniature schnauzer. He is black and cream (salt and pepper) and his coat is very soft. He has a docked tail as well.
Tonto comes to us from a hoarding situation. Unfortunately his owner was having health issues and could no longer care for the many dogs in the home. While friendly, he isn’t very socialized but he does seek attention and affection.
Tonto has been vetted and his vaccines were updated. He will be neutered next Tuesday 7/15/2025. Tonto will also need a dental cleaning before he can be adopted.
Once he has healed from his dental, he will be ready for adoption.
Tonto is a bit skittish. He prefers the company of someone or another dog. He will bark when he is alone. He may not be a good choice for an apartment dweller.
Tonto is working on his leash skills and potty manners. We are slowly exposing him to outside stimuli to get him familiar with his new surroundings. He seeks attention and affection and seems to follow rather than lead. Another helper dog with a calm demeanor and small stature will be a great help to him as he learns to navigate his new surroundings once adopted. So far he has been very pleasant. He is a good eater and sleeps all night in an exercise pen with his former housemate (Christian).
He seems to be a loving, aim to please type of guy. He will make a great addition to any pack!
Schnauzers are great watch dogs. They are intelligent, active dogs who enjoy training. They may not be good apartment dogs as they tend to bark. They require regular exercise and mental stimulation. They also require grooming every 4-6 weeks. Read more about the schnauzer HERE
