This Summer has been insanely hot! Not only for us, but certainly for our four-legged pals too. Here’s
some tips & tricks that you can use to keep your furry friends cool and protected throughout the Summer.
- Check that Asphalt! Consider Investing in Safety Equipment.
Have you ever tried to walk on pavement after stepping out of a pool? Now imagine doing that for every
walk! Sidewalks, roads, and pavement can get dangerously hot during the Summer. For these particularly
hot days, consider investing in paw pads, dog booties, or proper paw protection for your pups. Cooling
vests are also a good piece of safety equipment that may be able to keep your dog cool and comfortable,
especially during longer trips outside. - Bring Water, Shade, and AC!
If you’re planning on having your dog outside for a long period of time (a trip to the beach, a long walk,
etc etc) you absolutely need to pack some supplies for your pup. Bringing water, a portable bowl, and
even a travel-sized fan will help prevent your pup from overheating. However, the easiest way to keep
your dog cool and happy is keeping them out of the sun for long periods of time! When outdoors, make a
note of spots that aren’t in direct sunlight, or find indoor areas that are both dog-friendly and have AC. - Minimize Outdoor Playtime, Maximize Indoor Fun!
There are many factors that contribute to overheating in dogs – such as prolonged exposure to high
temperatures and humidity, being confined in a hot vehicle, lack of shade or cool shelter, or even underlying
medical conditions. Even though there are ways we can mitigate and protect our furry friends, nothing works
better than keeping them in a cool environment while minimizing the amount of time they spend outdoors.
Consider exploring indoor options for playtime, such as indoor dog parks, purchasing toys, or even taking
them to dog-friendly pools or beaches – where you know they’ll be able to have a good time!
Ultimately, our goal as responsible pet owners is to provide a safe environment for our furry friends
wherever they go. Our pups deserve to enjoy a bit of summer fun too, but safety should always come first.
We hope you all have a wonderful Summer – stay cool!
